A call
The caller dials one number. No app, no login, no smartphone — a flip phone works. The AI knows who is calling by the number, opens where they left off, and talks the way Ruchy talks.
1 · First call, new number
Hi, this is Ruchy's AI companion. I'm not Ruchy and I'm not a therapist — I'm built on how she thinks. What should I call you?
Miriam.
Miriam. What's going on today?
I keep losing it with my four-year-old in the mornings.
Mornings. Tell me about this morning — what happened right before you lost it?
Unknown number → says what it is, asks a name, goes straight in. The card is done on the web, not on the phone.
2 · Second call, a week later
Miriam, hi. Last time we talked about the mornings with Shloimy — you were going to get yourself ready before you wake him. How did the week go?
Two good mornings. Then Thursday was a disaster.
Two good mornings is two more than the week before. What was different on Thursday?
Caller ID → her file. It opens where you left off. Nothing is asked twice.
3 · In her voice
You can't pour from an empty cup, Miriam — you knew I'd say it. So before we talk about him: what did you get this morning?
Nothing. Coffee standing up.
Coffee standing up. Okay. Let's start there, not with Shloimy.
Ruchy's phrases and Ruchy's order of things: the mother's connection to herself before the child. From the interview, not a script.
4 · A hard moment
Sometimes I think they'd be better off without me.
I'm glad you said that to me, and I'm going to stop being clever now. Are you safe right now, tonight?
I think so. I'm just so tired.
I want a person with you for this, not me. I'm texting you the 988 line right now, and I'm letting Ruchy know you called. Stay with me while I do that.
Self-harm, abuse, danger to a child → it stops coaching, gives a human line, and Ruchy (or whoever she names) gets a text within a minute. Decision J.
Nothing to installIt's a phone call. The number is the login.
Any phoneFlip phone, kosher phone, landline.
Any hour3 AM after the baby, the AI answers. Shabbos: decision H.
The model is DavidAI (davidghiyam.com): a paid AI built on one teacher's material and voice. Ours adds the phone, the memory between calls, and the safety rail a licensed therapist needs.
Recognized
Every caller has a file the AI writes after each call, in plain English — not a transcript. That file is what makes the second call feel like a second call.
Miriam K. · (718) 555-0142
4 calls · 61 min · since Aug 20
| Working on | Mornings with Shloimy (4). Her own guilt after yelling. |
| Her practice | Get herself ready before waking him. "Name it before you fix it." |
| Last call | Sept 9, 18 min — two good mornings, Thursday fell apart when the bus came early. She noticed she yelled after the rush, not during. Agreed: Thursday she sets the clothes out Wednesday night. |
| Watch for | Mentions of not sleeping. Asked twice if she's "a bad mother." |
| Never | Bring up her sister. She asked. |
| Calls her | Miriam. Not Mrs. K. |
How it's kept
- The AI writes the file at the end of each call; the next call starts by reading it.
- The caller can ask "what do you have on me?" and hear it read back, and ask it to forget something.
- The file is the caller's. Ruchy sees themes and flags, not the file — unless the caller says yes. Decision K.
- Recordings: kept 30 days, kept never, or the caller chooses. Decision L.
Between calls
Thursday, 9:15 AM · a text
Miriam — it's Thursday. How did the morning go? Reply here; I'll have it for our next call.Ruchy AI
Clothes were out. He still cried but I didn't.
"He still cried but I didn't." That's the whole thing. Talk soon.
BunchText already sends and receives texts; this is the same pipe. Decision O.
Signing up
The pageName, cell phone, card. One minute.
A text"Here's your number. Call any time."
CallFrom that phone. The number is the login.
- Card first, like BunchText — or a free first ten minutes before the card. Decision E.
- Calling from a phone it doesn't know: "I don't recognize this number" + a text with the sign-up link. A second phone is added on the page.
- Stripe, already live under BunchText LLC; the charge reads "RUCHY AI".
Learning Ruchy
Not "trained" the way people say it. We don't retrain a model on her. On every call the model is handed her instructions, her material and her examples — and that pile grows every time she teaches it. Retraining comes later, if ever, once there are hundreds of her answers.
Her voiceA recorded interview, about three hours (the Questions tab). Becomes the standing instructions: how she opens, what she asks first, her phrases, what she never says.
Her knowledgeHer talks and classes, transcribed. Her group's themes. For each book she recommends, her takeaways in her words — ten minutes a book on tape. Not the books; what Ruchy took from them, which is what her clients get too.
Her answersForty real situations, each answered by Ruchy on tape. These are the examples the AI reasons from. It keeps growing through the "Teach it" inbox.
Where her answers go
Answered on the phoneRuchy calls the same test number from her own phone. It knows her number, asks the next open question, one at a time; skip, repeat, go back, stop. Every call picks up where the last ended.
Or typedThe training page has a box under each of the 52. Same place either way.
Seenruchyai.bunchtext.com/train: every answer, who gave it and how, the instructions built from them (every version kept), and the meter.
Her actual voice
A professional voice clone (ElevenLabs) from about thirty minutes of clean recording. She owns it, it's used only here, and every call says it's an AI. Or a good stock voice. Decision F.
What it runs on
The numberTelnyx, the same account as BunchText.
The conversationVapi: hears (Deepgram), thinks (Claude Opus 5 on our server), speaks (ElevenLabs, her voice).
The memoryBunchText's Firebase. One file per caller.
What it sounds like when it's right
Ruchy listens to ten calls and says "that's me" to eight. Until then we keep tuning the instructions, not the model. That's step 2 of the build plan.
Safety
Ruchy is licensed. This has to be built to the strictest rule in the country, not the loosest.
It says what it is. Every call opens with: an AI, not Ruchy, not a therapist. Every call, not just the first.
Not therapy. Growth and support in Ruchy's approach. No diagnosis, no treatment plan, no medication talk. Illinois, Nevada and Utah restrict AI presented as therapy; New York's companion-AI law requires crisis detection and periodic reminders that it's an AI. We build to all of them. Her lawyer or licensing board reads the wording before launch — decision M.
A person, fast. Self-harm, abuse, danger to a child: the AI stops coaching, gives 988 / 911, and texts Ruchy or the person she names — decision J. It never hangs up on someone in crisis.
Adults only. 18+ at sign-up. A call that is clearly a child: gently ended, the account holder texted.
Her own clients. In or out is her call. If in, the AI is told who they are and stays in its lane — decision C.
Private. The file is the caller's; delete on request. Ruchy sees themes and flags, not transcripts, unless the caller opts in — decision K. Recordings — decision L.
Shabbos. Like BunchText, the number can go quiet from candle-lighting to havdalah for the caller's zip — or answer regardless. Decision H.
Money. A cap per call and per day, so nobody spends $50 in a night without meaning to. Decision I.

Two different jobs: the plumbing and the brain
Telnyx's assistant, Vapi and Retell are plumbing: the phone line, the ears, the mouth, handling interruptions and the half-second of silence. Claude is the brain. Vapi and Retell let us plug in our own brain — so the brain is Claude either way.
A · Telnyx's own AI agentSame vendor as BunchText. Locks you to its menu of voices and models. AJ tried it — not happy. out
B · Vapi chosenTakes the Telnyx call, hears (Deepgram), hands each turn to our server, speaks (ElevenLabs). Our brain, our memory, our rules.
C · Build it ourselvesRaw audio in and out. Full control, months of work. Not for version one.
The brain: Opus 5 on the call, Fable 5.1 after it
On the call · Claude Opus 5Set to answer fast with light thinking. First word in well under a second. $5 in / $25 out per million tokens. The persona and her file are in the instructions, so the call doesn't need the heaviest model.
After the call · Claude Fable 5.1Writes the caller's file from the transcript, digests the interview into instructions, drafts the "Teach it" answers. No clock, so the most capable model. $10 / $50.
Why not Fable on the callFable always thinks before it speaks — a second or two of silence before every answer, and twice the price. On a phone, silence is the experience. If step 2 shows Opus isn't good enough, we switch: it's one line.
Step 2 status
code written Sept 15 The brain is a small server on BunchText's Firebase: a turn endpoint for Vapi (Opus 5, streaming), a "who's calling" endpoint that picks the greeting from the caller's file, and an after-call writer (Fable 5.1) that rewrites the file. Waiting on two things from AJ: an Anthropic API key, and a Vapi account with the test number.

Every Claude call and every Vapi call bill is metered as it happens, split into build (now) and run (after launch). Detail and the answers themselves are on the training page.
To build — proof of concept
| Item | Basis | Est. |
| Interview transcription, ~3 hrs | Deepgram, on the call | $2 |
| Her answers → instructions | Fable 5.1, ~5 rebuilds × 30¢ | $2 |
| Book takeaways, 10 × 10 min | transcribe + digest | $3 |
| Interview calls on the line | ~4 hrs × 9¢ plumbing | $22 |
| Her voice clone | ElevenLabs Creator | $22 / mo |
| Test number | Telnyx | $1 / mo |
| Vapi | pay as you go, no minimum | $0 |
| Tuning calls, AJ + Ruchy | 100 calls × 10 min × 22¢ | $220 |
| Proof of concept | | ≈ $270 |
| Trials: 10 real callers, 4 weeks, free | ~3,600 min × 22¢ | ≈ $800 |
"Training" is the cheap part — under $10 of Claude. Minutes on the line are the cost, before and after launch.
To run — one minute on the phone
| Piece | Who | Stock voice | Her voice |
| Platform | Vapi | 5.0¢ | 5.0¢ |
| Hearing | Deepgram via Vapi | 1.0¢ | 1.0¢ |
| Speaking | ElevenLabs via Vapi · own plan for a clone | 2.0¢ | ~12¢ |

| Her file, after the call | Claude Fable 5.1 · ~19¢ a call | 1.0¢ | 1.0¢ |
| Per minute | | ≈ 12¢ | ≈ 22¢ |
Her cloned voice is the single biggest line: the clone runs on our own ElevenLabs plan, not Vapi's 2¢ pass-through. Decision F is a money decision.
To run — a month
| Subscribers | Minutes (avg 60 each) | Cost at 22¢ | Fixed | Revenue at $49 | Left |
| 10 | 600 | $132 | $30 | $490 | $328 |

| 200 | 12,000 | $2,640 | $340 | $9,800 | $6,820 |
Fixed = ElevenLabs plan (grows with minutes), Telnyx number, Firebase. Vapi has no monthly fee on pay-as-you-go.
What we charge against what it costs
| Plan | Caller pays | Costs us (her voice) | Left | Margin |
| A $49 / month, 90 min | $49 | $20 | $29 | 59% |

| Overage on A and C | 50¢ / min | 22¢ / min | 28¢ / min | 56% |
The caps (decision I) protect A and C: a caller on A who talks 240 minutes costs $53 against $49 unless the overage bills. Ruchy's share vs BunchText's — decision P. Prices are list prices as of Sept 15, 2026; the meter above is the truth.
